Program Summary

Developed in Italy, the Reggio Emilia approach to preschool and primary education has inspired countless teachers around the world. Learn more about its international influences when you visit the Loris Malaguzzi International Centre, named for the philosophy’s creator. You’ll also connect with other passionate students and teachers during visits to local schools, and gain insight into how educational practices have changed over time when you visit the oldest university in the world.


Embedded Course Information

Students must be enrolled in PSYCH 212 (GS) or PSYCH 432 (US) for the Spring 2020 semester to be eligible to participate in this optional, one-credit embedded program during the Spring semester. Participating students will be enrolled in one-credit of PSYCH 299 for the Spring semester.

This additional credit may or may not add to a student’s cost of tuition depending on their part-time vs. full-time student status. Please visit the Penn State Tuition website for additional information about tuition costs. Tuition costs are NOT included in the embedded program fee.

Prerequisite for PSYCH 212: PSYCH 100

Prerequisite for PSYCH 432: PSYCH 100, 6 additional credits of PSYCH

Estimated Program Costs

  • Embedded Program Fee: $1,974 (The cost of $1,974 if for 10-12 participants; the price will be reduced to $1,902 for 13-15 participants or $1,856 for 16 or more participants)
  • Round-trip Airfare: Approx. $600- see details in the interest form
  • Transportation to Domestic Airport: Approx. $250-150 depending on the number of participants
  • In-Country Spending Money: Please consult with your faculty leader about the amount of money to bring to cover the costs of meals and any additional spending money

NOTE: Participants will travel as a group to and from Rome, Italy from a JFK airport in New York. Participants will receive instructions from the faculty leader about how to book the group flight after the commitment deadline.
