Orientation 2019

LandscapeU held it’s first orientation for students on  September 10th 2019.

Orientation was held in the  Hamer Building,  at Shavers Creek Environment Center.  Team members and students spent the day getting to know one another better and spent time sharing/learning  information about the program.  Introductions were made.   Several ice breaker activities had students and team members laughing, engaging with one another and getting to know one another better.

Erica Smithwick, LandscapeU’s PI, gave an overview of the program.  Frey Brownson, a  LandscapeU’s team member,  led an activity on “What does “transdisciplinary” mean for us?” .

After lunch and some outdoor time, Erica led the group in a Life-Path Exercise where participants created a visual timeline that brought them to Penn State as a Ph D student and a cohort member of LandscapeU.

Caitlin Grady, another LandscapeU team member,  did an introduction  IDP ( Individual Development Plan) exercise to help students learn how to create a plan for their future as graduate students of the LandscapeU Program.
