To me, Wallace Stevens’s Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird is a poem that uses contrast between “quiet” and “loud,” in more than one sense of those words. My artwork is based on this perception, and in order to portray this, I considered the amount of positive and negative space I wanted to use in each panel. (This is an improvement from my concept drawing, as this time I wasn’t afraid to leave negative space.)
Also, each panel of the bottom two rows utilizes letters that spell out,
— W H A T
I K N O W
from the 8th stanza.

I was intrigued by your idea for the imagery. I thought it was very well thought out and there was a lot of smaller detail. I like how you broke up each stanza and gave each its own box.

Your use of negative space was very creative in this piece. Each panel reflects off the poem that we studied in the class. I also enjoyed that you incorporated letters into most of your panels. It was a nice challenge to spot each letter which forms a phrase.

This project is wonderful. I love the abstract images. They are thought-provoking.
