Instructors in the College of the Liberal Arts continued to demonstrate enthusiasm and drive in the Canvas Kick Start workshop on Tuesday, September 13. In the workshop, attendees first learned how the Canvas conversion was progressing within the college. As of the Fall 2016 semester, just over 25% of all courses being taught, were being taught in Canvas. Next, the 41 instructors lead a 50-minute demonstration of the Canvas tools they wanted to see. Lastly, they chose to attend a 45-minute breakout session on how to get started with either 1. migrating their courses from ANGEL or 2. building their courses from scratch in Canvas. Attendees found answers to common questions, such as:
- “What features does Canvas offer that ANGEL did not?”
- “What is the best way to migrate content from ANGEL into Canvas?”
- “How do I communicate efficiently with students in Canvas?”
- “How do I set up, enter, and change grades in Canvas?”
Liberal Arts instructors only got a small taste of Canvas in the 2-hour workshop, and left with a vision and a multitude of contacts available for 1-1 support leading up to their Spring 2017 semester. We, the Liberal Arts Canvas Liaisons, Cathy Holsing (cjh145@psu.edu) and Jessie Driver (jcb5021@psu.edu), look forward to seeing their visions come to life!
