The official resource for all things Canvas at Penn State, http://canvas.psu.edu/, has a new look.
The website has the same URL, but when users reach the site, they will see immediately that the home page looks different. The navigation bar at the top is streamlined and includes a bright yellow Canvas login button in the upper right corner, which takes you to your courses in Canvas.
The redesign concept focuses on the user. The “getting started” section under Help and Support includes information on accessing courses, using mobile apps, how to get help, and more.
Students, faculty, and instructional designers can all find additional help tailored to their needs.
- Students can get information on how to see their grades, keep track of due dates, and respond in discussions.
- Faculty can learn how to use quizzes, post grades to LionPATH, and use SpeedGrader.
- Course builders, such as instructional designers or anyone who puts together a course, can see how to set up a new course, merge multiple courses, and organize course content.
The website redesign process began in late summer and was driven by representatives from various disciplines across the University. Team members worked on content, design, accessibility, and user flow through the site. They looked at other institutions’ Canvas websites for inspiration.
New content was added, such as direct links to Canvas help, the Canvas Guides, and Penn State’s IT Knowledge Base, which includes documentation on many Canvas topics. Training dates, course conversion assistance, and connections to the campus and college Canvas liaisons are still on the revamped site, but are much easier to locate.
Note: Bookmarks from the previous version of the website will no longer work. Users will need to locate the content on the new site and bookmark the information again.
We hope you will find the revamped website easier to navigate and find it easier to connect with the information you need to fully experience the benefits of Canvas.
