WFED 578 – Lesson 9 Blog Reflection

Describe a situation in which your needs and the group’s goals were not in alignment. Were you able to resolve this problem?

I am currently experiencing this topic as I have been aligned to coach a group within my organization, however myself and my partner were given very little information about the partnership. We both know what skill set we can coach to and impact we can provide, but the team working on the partnership is very unaware of the ultimate goal and if our skillset is even in alignment with the potential goals.

While we have been awaiting clearer instructions, we have been taking proactive steps to build relationships within the potential groups. This has allowed us to better understand some of the concerns and gaps within the leadership team and what their needs may be once we begin our coaching. We have also been pushing our leadership team for clearer guidance and next steps.

Our biggest concern is are they aligning the right people to the partnership if they don’t know what the goals are quite yet. Perhaps it is my partner and I, but it might not be. We have addressed this concern with our leadership team and they are in agreement, however, they feel confident that we can skill up quickly based on our track record should there be new skills to acquire. Although not resolved quite yet, our proactive behavior, constant questioning and also starting to better understand what we might be coaching to, has helped ease our minds and ensure that we can provide the best partnership and coaching for the teams.
