As part of the chapter 2 reading, I printed out the leadership traits questionnaire and handed it out to 5 of my working peers and then I completed the self assessment. The interesting results… the closer the peer was to me (friends) the closer they were to my scores. Individuals who I wasn’t as close to, scored me higher in areas I gave myself neutral scores and lower in areas I gave myself higher scores.
After reading about the trait approach, I have a deeper understanding of the importance that traits play in becoming an effective leader. However, I do not subscribe to the idea that great leaders are born. As in the results of my questionnaire, understanding how to employ the correct trait to the right situation will ultimately determines the effectiveness of the interaction.
