Every individual is looking for that one style that they can relate their leadership too. Well, I feel that servant leadership is the leadership style that relates to every individual. The reason being is because servant leadership plays into the aspect of being there for others and that is what every individual should strive to do. Servant leadership plays into the morally right path and condones ethical behavior as a guiding principle. By being a servant leader, you are worried about the development of the individual as opposed to the guidance or directing of others.
One of the greatest individuals that I feel has every exhibited servant leadership is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In his every day life Dr. King was an advocate for building community and committed to the growth of people. His work with the civil rights provided awareness to the nation on the injustice of the treatment of the African Americans in our nation. He was able to inspire millions to stand up for what is right and change the heart of a nation. It was through his persuasion that he was able to advocate for non-violence and orchestrate the March for Jobs and Freedom, “more commonly known as the “March on Washington”. It was at this march that Dr. King delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, which cemented his status as a social change leader and helped inspire the nation to act on civil rights” (JPMorgan Chase & Co, 2014). Dr. King was an inspiration and I feel that he truly exemplified servant leadership in his commitment to the civil rights movements and a nation at war.
