Donald Trump’s Leadership during Coronavirus
With the current news of Co-Vid 19, Trump has been the center of the news as well demonstrating his leadership abilities. It is based upon opinions if you like Donald Trump or not, but since we are learning about leadership, and the traits that come along with good leadership, it may as well be written about Trump and the Coronavirus since it is top news. Do you think Trump’s leadership is terrible or outstanding?
Donald Trump displays many traits of good leadership. He has self-confidence, a desire to lead, honesty, and integrity. With the Coronavirus, it has been a debate whether or not, if he is lacking leadership. For some examples, “President Trump initially downplayed Covid-19, saying everything was “under control.” On Tuesday, he held a news conference at which the American people were informed that 100,000 people, if not more than double that, may die from the virus” (Schaff, 2020, p. 1). In our chapter, we learned about The Great Man Theory. Stogdill identified the top 10 traits that were positively associated with leadership, one of which was, “willingness to accept consequences of decision and action” (The Great Man Theory, 2020).
With Trump “downplaying” the coronavirus, was it out of ignorance, or was he trying to calm the public? People have become in a panic over the virus and have been hoarding food, toilet paper, ect. Also, in Stogdill’s top ten traits included, “drive to exercise initiative in social situations,” and “ability to influence other persons’ behavior” (The Great Man Theory, 2020). Trump could have been trying to not put fear out in the world, and trying to keep the peace and food on the shelves for other people who have not hoarded things.
It is a matter of opinion, and this is not a debate if Trump is a good president. It is merely facts. Trump demonstrates leadership. Is it bad or good leadership? The Coronavirus has put the world into a pandemic. Donald Trump has become the center of the news with his leadership abilities, some think he is doing a terrible job, while others think he is doing an outstanding job.
