I am from Singapore, a Southeast Asian country with a majority Chinese population. My great grandmother traveled to Singapore from China many years ago and settled there. I have been learning and speaking Mandarin Chinese all my life, and was part of the Chinese Language Elective Programme (CLEP) when I was in Junior College. I also speak Teochew, a Chinese dialect.

My favorite Chinese dish is Bittergourd Egg (苦瓜炒蛋). I also like eating Salted Egg (咸蛋) and Century Egg (皮蛋) with Plain Porridge* (白粥 or 稀饭).

*Also known as Congee. This is rice cooked with a larger proportion of water.
