Learning Factory Micro-Credentials

Micro-credentials recognize participation, knowledge, and skills gained in both formal and informal learning experiences. This summer the Penn State College of Engineering is working with the Learning Factory to make micro-credential programs available online to all Penn State students. You earn them by completing a series of mini-courses, participating in some projects, and doing some reflection along the way. The associated badge can be placed on a resume, your LinkedIn profile, or elsewhere to show prospective employers.

ATTENTION: Our summer badge program has finished. Please stay tuned for more opportunities this semester.

Learning Factory at Home Badge

This is our flagship badge for the Summer of 2020.  This badge is built around helping you develop the technical and non-technical skills you need in order to succeed. It requires 16-20 hours to complete five separate modules. The program starts with a module on communication to ensure you have an essential foundation in presenting as well as interpersonal communication. From here you will move into what it means to be a leader and a project manager before exploring design processes and unlocking creative thinking. Lastly, students are asked to complete a course on a topic of their choosing and reflect on it’s applicability to their future careers.

Diveristy and Inclusion Badge

This badge is coming soon, here’s what we’re planning … This badge was created to ensure that we all spend proper time educating ourselves when it comes to issues surrounding race and diversity in the United States. Penn State students should be ready to be leaders in today’s society. As such, we want to give you the resources to understand each other and get out of your comfort zones. This badge is focused on what bias is, the long history that created modern biases, and what it means to be an ally. It will take 8 – 10 hours to complete the requirements.
