Please review the instructions for using the SchoolVue software on the Podium Computers page before continuing further on this page.
First, log in to one of the podium computers and start the SchoolVue software. You can launch z-Tree channels before or after launching SchoolVue. However, you need to have the z-Tree channels up and running before any clients can connect to them. Once SchoolVue is running, wake up the client computers if needed.
Next, you must identify the clients that will connect to each z-Tree channel. We recommend creating groups corresponding to each channel and adding the appropriate clients to each group. Note that we have created some default groups within SchoolVue. We suggest that you use these groups if they meet your channel organization needs.
Now you are ready to launch z-leaf instances on the clients. To do so, first select the clients corresponding to the channel you want the z-leafs to connect to. You can do so by manually selecting clients from the list of all clients, or by navigating to the group corresponding to the channel and selecting all clients in that group. Then right click and select Launch Application. Choose the appropriate script to launch z-leaf on the clients. Please make sure that the ‘Execute only if the Client is logged on’ option is checked off before you launch the script.
The scripts are named using the following naming convention – “Podium X – ChY” where X represents the podium number (1 or 2) for the podium computer and Y represents the channel number (1-10) for the specific z-Tree channel that you want the z-leaf to connect to.
Note that the Launch Application window allows you to launch z-leaf instances corresponding to both podium computers from the podium computer where SchoolVue is running, even though you must log on each podium computer to launch the z-Tree channels.
Repeat the above steps for each Podium-Channel combination.
When subjects log on to the client computers they will observe the appropriate z-leaf screen depending on the status of the z-Tree program.
You can check whether the z-leaf instances have correctly launched and connected to the z-Tree channels by viewing the Clients table within the z-Tree application corresponding to each channel.
Closing z-Leaf
After your experiment has concluded, you can close the z-Leaf application on the client computers from the SchoolVue application. To do so, please select the clients, right click and choose Launch Application and launch the ‘endzleaf‘ script from the resulting window.
Testing your experiment
Occasionally researchers may want to test their setup before subjects arrive. Please go to the page on testing your experiment to review the steps for testing.
