“Men tell stories,” I say. It is the truest, simplest answer to his question. “Women get on with it. For us it was a shadow war. There were no parades for us when it was over, no medals or mentions in history books. We did what we had to during the war, and when it was over, we picked up the pieces and started our lives over.”

Kristin Hannah tells a story that celebrates the resilience and strength of women in a time when only men’s contributions were examined. Two women fighting from the sidelines and never being recognized for their accomplishments is not a new story by any means. This is one of rebirth and recovery too though.

“Wounds heal. Love lasts. We remain.”

Time goes on and even the worst wounds start to close after a while. Some people change and some people never do, but through it all, we endure.
