Improve and Automate Process Flow

Overview

With a growing demand for their products, King Krunch is struggling to adjust to the growing capacity. This company needs to find ways to increase efficiency in their manufacturing line, automate their inventory and ordering procedure, and decrease their shipping costs.

Objectives

-Find an ERP system that is compatible with Quickbooks and Square
-Reorganize production layout to provide a better flow and increase efficiency
-Find machines, such as filler and sealer, to automate packaging
-Find causes of high shipping prices and find ways to reduce the shipping prices

Approach

ERP:
-Research multiple ERP systems and create a comparison chart to evaluate the best ERP
-Meet with ERP technician to walkthrough the system’s capabilities
-Establish SKU numbers
Packaging and Shipping:
-Research filling machines and create a spreadsheet compare model capabilities vs price
-Send sample product to All-fill to test in their filler
-Researched and implemented ShipStation to minimize shipping cost
Production Layout:
-Created process maps to find bottlenecks in production
-Used the process maps to reorganize and remodel the production floor
Profit and Losses Spreadsheet:
-Created a spreadsheet to calculate King Krunch’s profit, considering revenue, overhead, labor, indirect labor, and cost of goods

Outcomes

-Ordertime was chosen as the best ERP system for King Krunch. It was the cheapest option yet offered all the features King Krunch requires
-Rearranging the production layout eliminated the need to go up and down the stairs and increased the flow of production while reducing the step count
-ShipStation is being used to lower shipping prices and streamline the labelling process
-Purchasing the All-fill filler will decrease the labor needed to fill the bags and increase the production rate
-Using the Profit and Losses spreadsheet, King Krunch can make strategic decisions using the data we have collected to optimize business processes
