Project Summary
Overview
A lightweight portable leg press has been created by Fresh Start Wellness, LLC to assist these patients through targeted muscle training. The motivation for this project was to model the original prototype with CAD files and drawings in order to send it to a potential manufacturer for series production. Moreover, the resistance bands inside the machine were ensured to supply the advertised load.
Objectives
-Model original prototype with CAD files and drawings
-Provide list of potential manufacturers for series production
-Verify resistance band load
Approach
-Learn the purpose and construction of the leg press through meeting with the sponsor
-Disassemble prototype of the portable leg press in the Penn State Learning Factory
-Take measurements of all necessary dimensions of each component in the portable leg press in the Penn State metrology lab
-Created Solidworks drawings of each component based on dimensions collected
-Connect individual parts into the final Solidworks assembly
-Tested to determine leg press limitations and height restraints of the leg press
-Tested yoga mat function on different height individuals to understand the limitations of the device with the yoga mat
-Tested resistance bands inside the machine were ensured to supply the advertised load.
-Reach out to manufacturing companies for quotes of the cost for 10,000 units of the final prototype

-The yoga mat with a length of 100cm, a width of 61cm, and a thickness of 0.6cm
-10,000 yoga mats with attached belt and hook, and shipping included is $49,956

-The silver level of TheraBand, a commercial supplier of fitness resistance bands could be used as the resistance bands inside the machine, to supply 10.2 pounds of resistance when fully extended
