Project Summary

Overview

Logyard Brewing is a fast-growing brewing company located in Kane, PA. Over the past few years, the beer business has become extremely competitive due to many small brewing businesses entering the market. As a result, it has become very important for small businesses to distinguish their brand and stand out on the shelves.
Currently, Logyard Brewing’s packing does not accommodate branding/marking. Therefore, the objective of this project is to create a new way to package the variety 4-packs that allocates space for branding and descriptions of the contents of the pack and possesses a unique design that catches the customer’s eye on the shelves. Another objective of the new packaging design is to make it more sustainable than the current plastic lids.

Objectives

The team’s objectives were to deliver every item needed for Logyard to print the packages from their supplier and do so in a manner that most closely aligned with Logyard’s preferences.

Approach

-Rough prototyping, which continued through most of the project time, constituted the origins of the project.
-Narrowing design ideas down at meetings with the sponsor reduced variability in the Gantt chart.
-Visiting the Logyard brewery helped the team build a vision for how the application will be achieved.
-Selecting a design and building SolidWorks models allowed for a better visualization and a finer detail in changes to the design
-Finding a material that would be suitable for the design.
-As soon as material was obtained, 2nd level prototyping was done on the Cricut machine.
-With dimensionally correct prototypes, testing was done to further refine the design.
-Testing the prototypes in an array of methods validated the material and design.
-Final products were then built for presentation.

Outcomes

-Packaging costs are expected to decrease over time due to the new material having a more constant cost when being compared to the current packing method.
-Brand recognition is expected to increase.
