Project Summary

Overview

Strong Industries is a spa manufacturing company located in Northumberland, Pa. The company wants to improve the efficiency of its facility and to better understand its production capabilities. Currently, the company has no way of analyzing its production rates for the different areas of the facility. Our team was tasked with identifying a set of KPIs most crucial to the production of the facility and developing a software that will allow the values of these KPIs to be displayed throughout the facility. The software will be able to display the KPIs along with other important information to the production floor. The company would also like the software to have the capability of producing metrics based on the recorded data.

Objectives

Our objective was to first identify the necessary KPIs for the project and determine how to measure them using bar code scanners placed in each of the four main areas of the facility. With these KPIs, our objective was to develop a software that displays this information on monitors throughout the facility and allow management to analyze the data.

Approach

-Conduct site visit in order to understand the spa manufacturing process and floor layout

-Participate in weekly advisor and sponsor meetings to receive feedback and provide updates on progress

-Identify key KPIs along with goals and methods to measure them

-Develop front-end and back-end of software

-Test software with data to ensure its working

-Hand over software to company for deployment

Outcomes

The outcome of this project cannot be fully determined because the software has not yet been deployed. The expected outcome of this project, however, will be that Strong Industries can fully understand their production capabilities at each of the four main areas. Another expected outcome will be that the company can use the software to determine the optimal number of employees at each area of the facility. The company can also expect that this software can be further worked on by another team to add more functionality and features.
