Project Summary

Overview

Volvo came to us seeking a graphical user interface to decrease the selection time of highway trucks’ variants. The user used to go through various data sources to select the desired variants which were extremely time-consuming and tedious. The sponsor needed a graphical user interface that held all the relevant variant data to enhance users’ experiences when searching for specific highway trucks.

Objectives

Our team’s objective was to build an error-free graphical user interface that holds all possible highway truck variant combinations. Gabby generated the structure of the GUI along with generating the log-in system and code transfer file. Christina and Nate assisted with coding all the highway truck data along with assisting Gabby in any ad hoc requests.

Approach

• A kick-off meeting was held to clarify the sponsor’s needs
• The sponsor gave our team tutorials in all their systems such as databases and design software
• The sponsor handed over all the highway truck variant data that they wanted to be included
• A first draft of the GUI was created and presented to the sponsor for feedback.
• Following drafts were presented until the flow of the GUI was finalized with the sponsor
• Once repetitive coding was required other team members came in to complete the coding
• While other teammates were completing the coding, the primary coder created a log in portal along with utilizing a transfer portal to ensure the GUI could be successfully handed over to the sponsor
• Final meetings were held to evaluate the handover process with the sponsor
• Once the graphical user interface was finalized all the files and code were handed over to the sponsor
• The sponsor completed the final evaluation to complete the semester-long project

Outcomes

• A new graphical user interface was created
• The selection process was decreased by 50% which will lead to the company saving money
