Project Summary
The team was tasked with addressing the needs of customers and creating a grocery store of the future. The team used data from interviews with customers to identify a problem with the shopping experience and then researched solutions to create a prototype satisfying the needs of customers. The data showed customers wanted more control over their goods when shopping online and using curbside pick-up. Maintaining a contactless shopping experience was also important to customers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The team used creative brainstorming to create rough sketches of concepts for consideration and narrowed down ideas through multiple screening processes. When screening ideas, the team examined the feasibility of the idea, originality and how well the idea meets the needs of customers. The team decided an app with adjustments that allowed customers to directly pick out their produce when shopping online would satisfy their want for greater control over the quality of goods purchased. With the app, customers order groceries like a regular curbside pickup order, except they have the option to add preferences to the produce they ordered and choose their produce from three options through the means of pictures. The team also added a drive through component at the grocery store through which customers would pick up their grocery order in attempt to speed up the pick-up process and enhance the curbside pick-up experience.
