LAC member Adam Decaulp is kicking off a reading group on new materialism starting Thursday, September 29th, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m., in 463 Burrowes. Light refreshments will be provided.
Reading Group Description: The New Materialism reading group aspires to grapple with questions of material agency informed by a historical understanding of materiality as something both constructed and/or used by humans on the one hand, and as something that humans interact with beyond a mere utility, on the other. This notion of “being with” will be central to the group’s approach to New Materialist texts, which will initially favor those authors whose research intersects with feminist, posthuman, and eco-critical areas of scholarship. That being said, suggestions of authors or scholarship that include approaches which range widely from this starting point are welcome.
