Making Anime in Latin America with Pablo Monreal, founder of WOLU Studio

In collaboration with the Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese Graduate Student Organization, the University Park Allocation Committee, and the Department of Comparative Literature

When: Tuesday, April 12th 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Eastern

Where: on Zoom

What: Pablo Monreal is a Chilean architect, manga artist, and anime producer. In 2018, he founded WOLU Studio—the first company to publish manga-style comics and to produce animation by all Latin American artists.

In this workshop, he will give us a behind-the-scenes look at the production process for an anime movie or anime show. Monreal will share his experience as a Latin American artist empowering others to look at their own culture to tell stories.

Attendees will have an exclusive first look at studio WOLU’s newest, unreleased animated film Chajnantor, based on a manga originally published by Monreal in 2016. The story combines astronomy, indigenous Andean folklore, and science fiction.
