London was super exciting and the city I was looking forward to the most (probably because of my obsession with Harry Potter and watching British YouTubers at the time). It was also, unfortunately, our last stop of our big Europe trip. London definitely did not disappoint, and is exactly as you would expect. The weather was particularly cloudy most of the time and everywhere you looked appeared a big red bus and phone booth.
The city is more modern than the previous cities we traveled to, almost reminding me of New York City, but of course has beautiful European style architecture as well as cute markets, efficient public transportation, and exciting attractions! I never really mentioned in other posts, but it’s nice to be in a city where English is the main language and we can understand what people are saying or the signs around the city.
The London Eye
The London Eye is basically a big, fancy Ferris wheel, but it’s such a gorgeous attraction. We went around sunset and we were able to get a beautiful view of the entire city and the Big Ben. The Ferris Wheel cars are pretty big, and mostly glass so you can get a nice view all around. However, because the cars are so big, you’ll probably be riding with a bunch of people you don’t know. Also, on our ride, at the top, the ride had stopped for about five minutes longer than usual, and they admitted they were having technical difficulties which was a little terrifying! But obviously, we made it down and we had extra time to appreciate the stunning scenery. Regardless, it’s a great attraction and definitely worth the line.
Big Ben
The Big Ben is the clock tower attached to Westminster Palace. It’s basically one of the most popular sites in London (which you probably know), but we only saw it from the outside so enjoy these pictures of it!
British Museum
I’m not usually a huge fan of museums but I thought this one was pretty interesting! If you didn’t know, the Rosetta stone is showcased at this museum and it was pretty fascinating to look at. The museum also has a variety of different exhibits which were also interesting to see such as Egyptian exhibits with mummies, a samurai exhibit in the Japanese room, and the reproduction of old day homes in the Asian exhibits.
Platform 9 3/4 at Kings Cross Station
If you are a huge Harry Potter fan like I am, you definitely can’t miss this! In the actual train station, there’s a wall with a cart halfway through it, making it look like you’re going through to Platform 9 3/4! I didn’t get a picture because there was a huge line, and honestly looked a little ridiculous how they made people pose, but I still thought it was a cute touch. There was a really cute Harry Potter gift store too, which I really enjoyed walking through and it just made me happy but it was really crowded.
Tower of London
This attraction had such a medieval feel of the buildings and exhibitions. The most exciting part was seeing the crown jewels which are so gorgeous and grand!
Tower Bridge
Of course, what would be a trip to London without visiting the Tower Bridge? This bridge is so iconic and beautiful. The walkway has glass floors to get a view of below as well as a nice panoramic view of the city.
Churchill War Rooms
This was a surprisingly fascinating attraction than what I had expected! We were originally planning to go to the Westminster Abbey but we arrived too late and went to this attraction instead. Filled with history of WWII, this historical place detailed the underground headquarters of British discipline. I thought it was a pretty interesting place!
Shakespeare’s Globe Theater
I actually really liked this attraction, even though it’s just replica of the globe theater. It was interesting to hear about the history of Shakespeare’s theater and kind of experience the theater as they did back then. At the time, there were people practicing in the theater because I believe they put on shows there, so we were able to just sit and watch. It has a thatched roof and would hold up to 3,000 people in it, which was especially surprising because of how small it actually looks.
I really hoped you liked traveling with me and influenced you more to see the world! Traveling is such an amazing experience and I feel so lucky and fortunate to have been able to travel so much with my family!
