Many freshmen have been asking what they need to bring to THON in order to have a successful weekend. I realized that before you are actually a part of it, you probably have no idea what a THON weekend entails. Summed up as best as possible I’d say it’s 46 hours of standing, dancing, and cheering with thousands of your closest friends to support kids who are fighting cancer and their families. There is no experience quite like it.
Being prepared is crucial, which is why I thought a list of necessities for THON would be the perfect blog post today! Since it’s the FIRST DAY OF THON!
Here is a list of all the things I wish I had known to bring for THON:
- Drawstring bag
It’s a rule in the BJC (Bryce Jordan Center where THON is held) that you cannot enter with any other type of bag. - Refillable water bottle
Bring a big water bottle you can just refill so that you don’t have to spend so much money on water. - MEAL POINTS MEAL POINTS MEAL POINTS
The BJC takes meal points, so if you have a meal plan you are lucky! They take other cards, as well as lioncash. - Tennis balls
This may sound odd but tennis balls will help when your feet start cramping and they’re fun to throw around. - Colorful clothing
To show the dancers, the kids, and the world how much spirit you have! - Refreshers
Deodorant, face wash, toothbrush, etc. All of these will help keep you feeling fresh for the entire time you’re there. - Change of clothing
Dancing and jumping around will cause you to sweat so extra pairs of clothing are always a good idea. Especially if any THON kids with water guns catch you.
