It’s crazy to think that in less than two months I will be a Penn State alumna! For the seniors graduating from high school this year and heading off to college, I just want to say congratulations!
If you’re coming to Penn State in the fall, get ready for the best four plus years of your life!
I would give anything to be in your shoes again, but unfortunately May 9, 2015 is approaching rather quickly and it will be time to say goodbye to Happy Valley and hello to the real world.
Some advice I would give to the high school seniors about to embark on the fantastic journey called college is to not rush the next four years! Enjoy every minute of it, including finals, class registration and the amount of projects and papers that await you.
The amount of resources that Penn State provides soon-to-be graduates is amazing. From the Bank of America Career Center on campus to the multiple college fairs held throughout the year, Penn State has so much to offer students interested in pursuing internships, co-ops and full-time positions at major, well-known companies.
The career center allows students to practice interviewing for internships and jobs, provide résumé writing help and of course with job searching.
Since last year, I have attended both the major Fall Career Days fair in the Bryce Jordan Center held every fall semester, as well as the college fair specific to my college in the College of Communications.
The College of Communications holds their own Job Expo for its students, as well as the Success in the City event held in New York City. Students have the opportunity to meet job recruiters from companies that want Penn Staters to work for their companies after graduation.
The college also provides a list of resources for students to browse and turn to if needed.
My goal after I graduate is to get an admissions and recruiting job at Penn State or another institution, so I have been on the Penn State jobs website as well as higheredjobs.com.
So while you may have a while before you need to search for jobs and prepare for college graduation, know that the resources at Penn State are at your reach and beneficial for you.
For the Glory…
