Like fellow intern Niccia (https://sites.psu.edu/lionlife/2015/04/16/senior-year-bucket-list-go-to-the-blue-white-game/), I too planned on experiencing Blue
& White weekend! Even though I am a sophomore, this was my first time participating in the festivities of Blue & White weekend. With the return of many alumni and families there was so much to do this weekend in State College!
One thing that surprised me about Blue & White was the carnival that took place in the parking lot outside of the Pegula Ice Arena! The carnival was full of games, food and lots of fun. The area was full of alumni and their families, which made the weekend feel even more special. Even though I wasn’t able to participate in any of the games myself, it was still fun to watch kids of fellow Penn Staters having fun and enjoying the beautiful weather.
Just like during the football season, lots of alumni came back to State College and tailgating festivities were everywhere. What made this tailgating more special for me was being able to experience it with my family. What was also fun is that most of my family is Penn State graduates!
Definitely one of the best parts of the weekend was being able to be back in Beaver Stadium! Nothing beats the feeling of walking into Beaver Stadium and seeing the massive stadium full of fans. What made it even more special for me was being able to experience that moment with my younger sister. When we walked in the first thing she said was “Whoa, this is huge!” Seeing all the players back on the field is always an exciting rush as well. Watching run through the tunnel is one of the greatest moments.
To end the great weekend, I attended the
Paterno Family Beaver Stadium run! Even though I was not running it myself it was still awesome to watch over 4,000 runners and walkers of all abilities and ages participating to help raise money for the Special Olympics in Pennsylvania. What is also awesome about this run is that the runners and walkers end the race on the 50-yard line in Beaver Stadium. It was such a beautiful day and a perfect way to end the weekend.
