A Topic Near and Dear to My Heart.
It’s week six, which for us Penn Staters, means that we have a new daunting task approaching: midterms.
Between all the new clubs and organizations we’re sure to have joined, the assignments piling up, and wanting to still maintain a decent social life, at times it can seem like we have no free time or time to ourselves. Here are a few ways to take a step back, breathe, and relax so you can come back ready to take on the workload.
- Go to the Gym.
For me, this is my favorite and most effective way to clear my head if I’m ever feeling overwhelmed. Working up a sweat is scientifically proven to help calm you down because of all the happy chemicals your body releases. And with three high-quality gyms throughout campus, fitness classes throughout the week, and great running routes, Penn State makes it easy for you to mellow out after your workout.
2. Sit Outside
With so many pretty places to hang outside here on campus, it’s easy to find a sunny place to hang out if you need a break for studying. Even taking homework outside and doing it in the fresh air has helped me to enjoy studying more and make it less stressful.
3. Take A Walk
On that note, if taking your homework outside still isn’t helping, take a study break and take a walk. Whether its downtown to window shop or simply walking across Old Main Lawn, there’s something very relaxing about pacing and stretching your legs a little.
4. Read a Book in a Coffee Shop
For me, there’s something extremely humbling about just being by yourself in a quiet coffee shop. As far as I’m concerned, here at PSU we have Saint’s Café, which is about as perfect as coffee shops can get. The atmosphere itself is very quaint and relaxed- a perfect detox if you’ve had a busy week. Plus, who doesn’t love a good latte?
