We all have a list of things we’re looking for when looking for your dream college. Whether you’re looking for a specific program, a location, or to save some money, different options are perfect for different people.
At Penn State, we’re fortunate enough to have the option to attend all four years of college at one campus, or two years at one campus and two years at another. There are 20 Commonwealth Campuses across Pennsylvania that hold a list of programs either unique to the campus or that can be finished out at one of the other Penn State campuses.
Penn State’s 2+2 plan is one of the most common paths taken by Penn Staters to earn a Penn State degree. More than 50 percent of students choose to spend their first two years at commonwealth campuses to enjoy a smaller campus environment, get more one-on-one attention from faculty and advisers, stay close to home, continue their athletic careers, save on tuition, and so much more.
In order to transition to another campus after the first two years of your program, you just have to work with your academic adviser to make sure you schedule the right classes to keep you on track for your major!
So that being said, why should you take part in the 2+2 plan?
Everyone has their own reason for choosing this program and some students who participated in this plan and just made their way to University Park have their answers for you!
I chose the 2+2 program with Penn state because it gave me a chance to engage in a smaller campus and class size while still receiving the phenomenal education that Penn state has to offer. I’m so glad I chose the 2+2 program because it gave me the opportunity to ease my way into the college experience before attending a campus as large as University Park.

College can be expensive, so to limit my costs I decided to stay home and save money then go to University Park after two years. It was a great way to make connections through both my commonwealth campus and UP! I saved money, and still had the best experiences of my life!
