Online learning can be a huge transition for students, and you might think you cannot complete your best work online. Since Penn State has moved to online learning, it is important to find how online learning works best for you. As a senior, I had to make the switch during my spring semester. I am going to share with you tips and tricks that will help you be successful while learning online.
One important tip for online learning is to build a study plan. It is easy to get off schedule since you are no longer attending classes so make sure to set a schedule that works best for you. Procrastinating is the last thing you want to do and you might slowly find yourself falling behind in your classes. Planning ahead can help you to not fall behind. Allow yourself time to plan out the assignments you have due for the week or upcoming weeks. With this, create a to-do list and use your calendar on canvas. The calendar shows all of your assignments and crosses them off as you submit them. You will feel a sense of accomplishment as you see assignments being crossed off while also making sure you’re staying on track and not missing any due dates!
Another huge tip that I found to help me be successful is using the resources that are available to you. Reach out to your professors for help if you find yourself needing extra time or help. Attend their zoom lectures and review sessions. Make sure you are still staying connected with your professors and your courses. Your professors want to see you be successful, so reach out to them with any questions you have. In your courses, it is important to participate in class discussions. This allows you to still be connected with the other students as well as the professor. They will provide you with the resources you need for the course, so it is up to you to utilize them.
Stay motivated and make sure you are taking breaks. Remind yourself why you’re taking the course, and what it means for your future. Reward yourself when you complete a task or do well on an exam. It’s important to keep a positive attitude as that will be reflected in your work. And finally, make sure to take time for yourself. With so much screen time it is easy to feel overwhelmed and burnt out. Taking time for yourself is a great way to refresh and come back to your work with a clear mind and fresh ideas! You deserve time during the day to do things you enjoy so make sure you are dedicating some time in your day to you.
These are some of the tips and tricks that I have used to be successful while completing my online work. I hope you find them helpful as you navigate remote learning!
