Eduardo Granata-Rodriguez graduated from Penn State in the spring of 2019 from the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences with a degree in Energy Engineering. He also graduated with minors in Environmental Engineering and Italian. He is currently an Administrative Support Assistant for the Center for Engineering Outreach and Inclusion in the College of Engineering.
When it came to picking where to go to college, Eduardo described it as “he just had a gut feeling Penn State was the right place” for him. He enjoyed the campus and college town feeling the University gave off. He also was very drawn to Penn State because of how highly ranked his program was compared to any other college.
Eduardo had been interested in areas like technology since middle school, which he continued throughout his time at Penn State. This is what led him to choosing a major in engineering. As he continued to learn at Penn State, he developed an interest in energy engineering, which is how he ended up pursuing that major.
During his time at Penn State in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, he enjoyed all of the opportunities he was provided. He got to develop great relationships with peers and professors because of the small class sizes offered in his major. On top of his academics, Eduardo got involved in many different organizations on campus including the Multicultural Engineering Program, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, and the Italian Student Society.
After graduating, Eduardo’s job from college transitioned into the position he currently holds. He enjoys being able to work with current Penn State students and being involved in the inclusion efforts of the University relating to engineering.
When reflecting on his time at Penn State, he offers the following advice to prospective and current students, “You will be provided with so many support services for not only academics but also mental and emotional support. Take advantage of these resources because I didn’t and looking back, I wish I did”. He also offers advice of not giving up to future and current students. He describes this by saying, “Engineering can be very difficult and it is easy to give up in the beginning, but stick it out and in the end, you will achieve”.
Penn State is known for its vibrant community. Anywhere you go, no matter the setting, you will find Penn Staters. They will be yelling “We are!” or sparking a conversation with you because of your Penn State apparel. Eduardo is glad to be a part of the Penn State family and welcome more students through his current position.
