Penn State is a university that many people dream of studying at. Sometimes, students will go to different schools and realize that Penn State is where they need to be. This situation sounds a lot like Megan Schrass’. Let’s take a deeper look at what it is like to transfer to Penn State.
Megan is from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Currently, she is a third-year majoring in finance. As a child, she dreamt of going to Penn State. She was drawn by the school spirit, the community, the experiences she could have, and more. She was accepted to Virginia Tech and Penn State. At the time, her heart told her to go to Virginia Tech. Her friends and family were convincing her to become a Nittany Lion, but she would not budge. After a year at Virginia Tech, she realized that it wasn’t for her. She transferred to Penn State.
For her second year of college, she went to Penn State Harrisburg. There, she was able to get enough credits to come to Penn State University Park, be close to home, and work at the same time. Unfortunately, this is when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. While she wanted to be at the University Park campus, it worked out in the end. She is now here at the University Park campus enjoying the big school life, overall college experience, and broadening her horizons.
The transition from the Harrisburg campus to the University Park campus went smoothly. It was tedious and stressful to transfer credits and figure out the tiny details, but in the end it was all worth it. It was not hard to adjust to the change either. Penn State has a multitude of resources to provide support for students. Anytime she called or emailed, her questions were answered and her problems were solved.
Megan is thriving at Penn State. She is involved in THON, Women in Business, and CHAARG (health and fitness community). THON and Women in Business take up most of her time when she is not studying or relaxing in her limited free time. CHAARG is something that she likes to do in her free time as health is important to her. Her favorite spot on campus is the Pattee and Paterno Library. She likes that she can book a room and study three hours a day in those rooms. It helps create a boundary for her to not overwork. Her favorite things about Penn State are the football games, school spirit, and constant sense of community. Everyone belongs at Penn State.
For anyone interested in transferring, Megan has some advice to give. She said to never be afraid to ask questions. The process can be long and confusing. At Penn State, everyone wants everyone to be here. The moment someone feels unsure, someone else is there to help. Always have those resources on speed dial. The last thing she wanted to advise incoming transfer students is to get involved and find a community as soon as one can. It is a big school and people tend to get lost. Find a club that pertains to one’s major or interests to find that community. Life will become more enjoyable and you will feel you belong.
