Who are Lion Scouts?

Lion Scouts is a student volunteer tour guide organization that is directly affiliated with the Penn State Undergraduate Admissions Office. Lion Scouts assist the Undergraduate Admissions Office by giving prospective, transfer, and accepted student tours. Members also play a significant role in ensuring that spring Accepted Students Programs run as efficiently as possible. Our organization reflects the core values of Penn State; Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Discovery, Excellence and Community.

Do Lion Scouts get paid?

No, Lion Scouts are volunteer tour guides for the Penn State Undergraduate Admissions Office.

How can I get involved with such a large organization?

We have a variety of leadership roles within Lion Scouts. The organization has an Executive Board, Chair Positions, Athletic Tour Guides, a Membership Committee and a Constitution Committee. Lion Scouts also uses a house system, which allows for members to interact and meet members in smaller groups. 

Do Lion Scouts participate in THON?

Yes! Lion Scouts is partnered with multiple THON families, participates in fundraising efforts and attends THON each year.

Can I get a job from admissions by being in Lion Scouts?

Yes! Lion Scouts can apply to become Tour Evaluators, Life @ State Hosts or Welcome Desk Assistants each semester.

What is the time commitment required?

On average, tour guides will give about three tours a month. Lion Scouts are encouraged to give as many tours as their schedule permits.

What is the application process?

To become a Lion Scout, prospective members must first fill out the application form. Prospective members will be notified via email if they are selected to receive an interview. Details regarding interview day will be distributed to these applicants.
