Whistler Blackcomb

For this week’s blog, we are going to head back up north to Canada and talk about Vail’s ski offerings. As I have spent the last however many weeks inside, I would kill for any type of outdoor experience, whether it be warm or cold. So, while I have sat inside with nothing to do, I have been dreaming about all of the missed ski trips during this time. As I have said before, I want to ski in Canada so bad! Not only is the terrain superb, but the maple syrup and passing fellow skiers giving you a nice “eh” only makes it better! Just kidding. I don’t think that’s really how Canada works, but either way, terrain is still perfect whether the people are nice or not!

Whistler Blackcomb has been rated as one of the world’s best ski resorts. The terrain consists of two mountains, making it Canada’s premier ski resort, and the largest winter sports area in North America. The mountains offer more than 200 runs, 8,171 acres of terrain, 16 alpine bowls, and two glaciers, all accessed by 37 lifts. That’s right, 37 LIFTS! One of these, the three-kilometer-plus PEAK 2 PEAK gondola joins the two mountain tops and it is the world’s longest unsupported lift span. These technical facilities are outstanding, and what puts this resort above the rest. Quick and easy transportation to the peaks make for a better ride down!

Incomparable views that stretch to the Pacific Ocean, plenty of terrain for all skill levels, and a charming full-service resort village right at the base make it an equally good choice for families and casual skiers. Not only is skiing fun, but it’s more fun when you are with your loved ones! I know I have talked a lot about seeking out the most difficult runs, but it’s only fun when there is someone there experiencing it with you. I have friends of all ski types, and I know for sure I would be willing to give up skiing the blacks for a couple of days to experience the snow that Whistler Blackcomb has to offer, even if it means skiing the greens and blues for my inexperienced friends. There’s enough snow and mountain to go around, and it’s just a two-hour drive from Vancouver

But, that’s not all. Whistler Blackcomb has a lot to offer in the summer too! Such as hiking and biking trails, The Whistler Mountain Bike Park, and sightseeing on the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola. Even so, it gets better… The Horstman Glacier offers summer skiing! Imagine one day you are hiking and overlooking the beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean, and the next you are skiing on a glacier! I’m sorry but that just sounds like the perfect combination of summer and winter to me. So, while I struggle here in quarantine, I dream about the day I can finally go to Whistler Blackcomb Mountain.

  1. The Whistler Blackcomb mountain certainly sounds like an adventure! It’s really interesting that you mention it is like the perfect mix of summer and winter. You can have both at once! I do appreciate riding on a ski lift although I’ve never actually gone skiing down… It just takes away some of the grueling hiking. Hopefully, you can go there as soon as the quarantine is over!

  2. Wow, that picture is SO beautiful! I’m not even a skier, and I would kill to be there right now. I definitely agree that this quarantine is making me want some sort of outdoor activity so badly whether it be hot or cold. Hopefully one day you’ll be skiing down these slopes in Canada thinking back to all these blog posts about how badly you want to get there!

  3. That picture is amazing, I can’t imagine the view from a skiier’s perspective on top of the mountain where you can see the Ocean?! Sign me up. And then I’d promptly take the lift back down because I can’t ski that well lol. Thanks for sharing!

  4. That picture literally gives me chills…I miss skiing so much. I was supposed to go during spring break,,,little late in the season, but of course I can’t because of corona…so maybe next year.

  5. Woah hiking and skiing in one day that’s crazy, Canada seems like a magical place! I don’t think I am daring enough to ski that but the hiking and gondola sound pretty amazing too. I am sure it’s gorgeous there in the summer (and winter)!
