Today, I want to introduce you all to someone I have been good friends with since the very beginning of college. My friend, Carter Bucks, and I have suffered through a lot of our toughest classes together, such as our gruesome first semester in calculus.
I met Carter one of the very first nights of college, at an event for a THON organization that many Schreyer Honors College students were participating in, Springfield. A lot of us went to the first few events for this organization because we all wanted to get involved in THON as quickly as possible and try to become more involved on campus. We crossed paths walking back to Atherton hall from the event, taking an iconic first selfie at the Nittany Lion shrine that is shown below. I knew that I would enjoy Carter’s company from the start because of how funny and nice he is.
Quickly, we realized that we would be in a lot of the same classes together for the rest of college, as students that are in the Smeal College of Business and the Schreyer Honors College basically have a set schedule from the beginning. Carter, Erica, Lexi, Jillian and I all have a lot of the same classes together because of that concept, including calculus, management, accounting, and economics. It is definitely very helpful to have so many good friends in most of my classes, so we can collaborate on group work and help each other understand difficult concepts.
Carter is a member of the business fraternity, DSP, and that has played a major role in his college experience so far. Both he and my friends Jillian and Ben do the fraternity together, and they seem to absolutely love it. They have experienced it all together, and it has been very interesting to hear about it from an outsider perspective and learn more about how everything works. I considered rushing a business fraternity when they did because I wanted to do things with my friends, but I was more set on a non-professional sorority that is a part of the Panhellenic council. I am currently rushing for that and it has definitely been an interesting experience, to say the least.
Overall, Carter is someone that I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know over the course of my freshman year. It is always nice to have someone you know in your classes and some of the activities you participate in as well.
