I decided to do this post about an article about Beyoncé’s “wet hair” at the Grammys and the opinions that many had about it. First of all, here’s a picture:
In the comment thread, people were comparing her to a wet dog, drowned rat, and my personal favorite, Ramen noodles. People were bashing left and right, saying that this is the worst that she has ever looked. Some however, made comments about how she was trying to show off a look that was easy and affordable to all women. These comments weren’t exactly deliberative. Most were bashing her, and those who weren’t were somewhat bashed for not agreeing. So, not everyone’s opinion was necessarily respected. Also, the fact that these people have the time and energy to comment about a celebrity’s hair, which isn’t exactly a pressing issue, I wouldn’t exactly call this comment thread a deliberation.
Yeah, I have to agree – the very idea that people take time to discuss issues of such little importance to anyone at all sort of subtracts from the notion that any deliberation is going on at all. On another note: I think her hair actually looks pretty cool.
I love this example because it is very similar to my RCL #1 post regarding people’s thoughts about “Justin Beiber’s Least Functioning Fashionable Choices”. It is completely insane how our society has time to bash on celebrities but not be up to date with the chaos that is happening within the world. Nevertheless, great article for this topic!
