C1. The teacher monitors and adjusts instructional and assessment strategies during teaching.
While introducing the differences between maps and globes to my first grade students, I chose to monitor their comprehension through a variety of assessment activities. This provided myself with the knowledge needed to further analyze my teachings and adjust the chosen strategies throughout a Social Studies unit. To fully present this area of my teaching, I have chosen one day’s lesson out of this three-week long unit.
More specifically, I incorporated questions, as the one shown below, that assessed my students’ remembrance of previous slides in low stakes ways. Furthermore, I incorporated interactive elements that required my students to map and locate items through their Google Slides. Lastly, I formally assessed and pre-assessed their understandings through their Journals, where they created a map of their own bedroom and followed step-by-step directions.
This lesson also engaged my learners in a variety of ways. It not only had interactive elements that helped me gauge their understand but, it also included multimodal resources, such as videos. Additionally, it utilized technology, as well as hands on materials. This lesson was extremely differentiated due to the different modes of learning and the variety of assessment strategies that my students were provided.
