This week’s low is an annoying, inconvenient event that just keeps repeating itself. Thus, the aforementioned event became infinitely more of a nuisance than it would have been if it just happened once (or even a reasonable number of times).

Nosebleeds. Something I’ve struggled with my whole life. One time, when I was about 5, my mom went into my room to wake me up. I sat up in bed, and according to my mom, there was blood in my hair, on my sheets, and all down the front of my snow-white themed pajamas. She said it looked like a murder scene.

There was no murder, just my nose, bleeding for no reason.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve gotten random nosebleeds. It’s normal for your nose to bleed if you get punched or get a ball thrown off of your face, but it’s definitely not normal for your nose to bleed six times in a day (my personal record).

This week, I didn’t match my record of six nosebleeds in a single day, but my nose has been bleeding A LOT. Nosebleeds may not seem like a big deal, but they can be so inconvenient.

For example, nosebleed number one this week occurred in a similar setting to the childhood story I described earlier. I was sound asleep, comfy in bed, and for no reason, I woke up. Before I could even think about what was happening, I felt something drip from my nose.

I knew immediately. Nosebleed. At least my body woke me up, I guess, but it didn’t give me enough time to get a tissue before I got blood all over my sheets. An extra load of laundry, just for me. Thanks nose. I also had to get up out of my nice warm bed to staunch the bleeding. What a wonderful way to begin my day (at 3 in the morning).

What Is the Right Way to Stop a Nosebleed?

Nosebleed number two occurred while I was doing cardio. I do 20 minutes on the stairmaster twice per week, which is terrible in and of itself. It’s so hard to get motivated.

This week, I got ten minutes into my cardio session and my nose started bleeding. Continuing my cardio through the nosebleed wasn’t an option. It’s already hard enough to breathe on the stairs. I had to get off, stop the nosebleed, then motivate myself to get back on. Awful.

Nosebleed number three was in economics class. This was the least problematic of this week’s bleeding events because I was just sitting, so it wasn’t a huge deal to hold a tissue over my nose. I’ve gotten very good at stopping nosebleeds and simultaneously taking notes; I’ve had to, with the amount of nosebleeds I get during my classes.

However, it’s not super efficient to take notes with a nosebleed. For one, you’re down one hand (the one pinching your nose), so you can’t hold your notebook still. For two, you can’t really see over the tissue, so you kind of have to blindly write your notes and hope they’re decipherable later.

So, as you can see, this week wasn’t awful. Nosebleeds are something I can handle. However, they are driving me absolutely crazy. I’d love for mother nature to stop being bipolar and sending 50 degree temperatures one day and 30 degree blustering winds the next. My nose would love it too (the fluctuating temperatures do something that make my nose bleed extra, according to my doctor).
