HEOs Ceramic Factory

If you are an undergraduate at PennState and want to join our fun team; don’t hesitate to get in touch with Saeed at ssa5409@psu.edu or at saeedsialmishal@gmail.com

Ceramic processing is an important part of our group research both for bulk materials exploration and for sputtering/laser ablation target preparation. In our high-entropy oxides ceramic factory, we maintain facilities heat treating powders and pellets for promoting solid state reactions, defect chemistry studies, and sintering of chemically disordered materials. We regularly use in-lab X-ray diffractometer to identify the number of phases and crystal structures of our resulting ceramics and we have a dedicated and calibrated X-ray fluorescence detector to identify their chemical composition. Our group has a bank of furnaces  including tube furnaces for controlled atmosphere studies, and box furnaces with a spectrum of elements including kanthal (1200 °C) SiC (1450 °C) and MoSi2 (1750 °C).
