I find that technology is a help in the classroom and not a hindrance. I make good use of Canvas, the Learning Management System used by Penn State. I make sure that this technology benefits students as I post all PowerPoints and links and provide assignment sheets, dropboxes, and all grading feedback on Canvas. I do not prohibit phones, tablets, or laptops in my classroom; instead I make use of them. I often have students look up memes, sources, new articles, or other items relevant to our discussions. The ubiquitous use of technology in a student’s life makes it reasonable to incorporate technology into their education.
Here you can read about various ways I have implemented technology into my teaching, both online and in resident classrooms.
