Upcoming Outreach

Hello MA!
Hope you’re having a great semester so far! There are 3 upcoming outreach events that I’d like to share with you.
MSC Tour Guides
Giving tours of the Millenium Science Complex is a fantastic way to meet other club members, graduate students, learn about the research at Penn State, and share your Penn State pride with community members. Tour audiences range from middle school students to prospective graduate students. I’ve been giving tours since freshman year, so there’s no need for prior experience or knowledge. If you’re interested, please enter your name in the attached spreadsheet. I will contact you later with information on getting trained and upcoming tour dates. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE sign up!! We are in desperate need of new recruits (and there’s free pizza at the training session!)
Parent’s Weekend: October 15, 11:00-1:00
I’m looking for volunteers to help in various labs as part of Parent’s Weekend. This entails giving demo’s, talking to families about matSE, and answering questions. Sign-up sheet is attached.
Haunted-U 2016: Sunday, October 23rd, 12:00-6:00
This event is organized by the Eberly College of Science Outreach Team and they’re calling for STEM volunteers to do demos and lead groups of students(ages K-5) throughout the event. It’s a Harry Potter theme that involves solving “The Case of the Cursed Camper.” If you’re interested, contact me ASAP and I will give you details on how to sign-up and get clearances/training.
** If you do not already have a PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, and FBI Fingerprint Background Check, and are interested in volunteering, you must contact me immediately so we can get the process started (it takes ~4 weeks).
Outreach events are a lot of fun and a great way to meet other club members and give back to the Penn State community. Don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions!!
