For my energy estimate, I’m going to see how many joules my desk lamp uses in a year. My desk lamp has a 60 W bulb in it and I probably use it for an average of 3 hours every day. Because the bulb is 60 W, that means it uses 60 J per second.
\( \frac{60 \text{ J}}{1 \text{ sec}} \times \frac{3600 \text{ sec}}{1 \text{ hr}} \times \frac{3 \text{ hr}}{1 \text{ day}} \times \frac{365 \text{ days}}{1 \text{ year}} = 2.37 \times 10^{8} \text{ J/year} \)
