Blog Post on a Chemical Engineering Blog

Chemical Engineering News, a chemical engineering news-blog ran by the intelligent but rather humorous Paulina Szadkowska-Kociszewski, is a blog that helps to promote the ideas of chemical engineering as well as offer some chemical engineering-related humorous content. Paulina, as she states on her home page is a chemical engineer who simply started her blog as a way to start her résumé and personal achievements in the field. When people began commenting and reading her blog in great numbers from a great number of countries, Paulina decided she should get more serious about her blog and began adding more information about not just chemical engineering, but all types of engineering and basically anything done scientifically that appealed to her.

The blog is aimed at a variety of people, from actual chemical engineers, to chemical engineering and chemistry professors, all the way down to the general lay person who can enjoy a story (or some jokes) about STEM (science, tech, engineering, math for you aforementioned lay persons). As a chemical engineer with a bachelor’s degree, Paulina addresses a great number of topics ranging from astronomy and physics to chemical plants and nanotechnology (the latter of which I am most interested in). Examples of posts Paulina may put up range from finding a planet made entirely of diamond (wow!) to jokes about chemical engineers and other types of engineers changing lightbulbs with different degrees of success and speed.

Paulina’s blog, for the most part, is written with a sense of awe at what engineers and scientists can do across the world and universe. Occasionally, especially on a post with jokes, Paulina’s tone will become more playful and include emoticons and the like to tease the reader. With the exception of posts that Paulina is really interested in (like nanotechnology; we’re so alike), she will not post links to other sites. When she does link sites, she really wants you to check these sites out. The blog’s layout is pretty basic; at the top of the blog homepage there is introductory info about Paulina and her blog. Below this are her posts. Nice and simple; no ads, just options to use social media like Facebook and Linkedin. I like the setup of Paulina’s blog: it’s engaging and nothing distracts from reading the information. Overall, Paulina’s blog is a real winner, if anyone wants to read about STEM here it is: Chemical Engineering News.
