Creating this piece showed me how to simplify a master work using only rectangles. I learned simple icons and utilities on Adobe Illustrator.

In this exercise we learned a few more tools in illustrator. We used more precise tools to duplicate and resizes circles. We learnt how to use the align tool and grid system to get more accurate placements.

thirteenWaysDrawingWithText

2020_nevada_typeDrawings
In this exercise we made 3 different compositions with font. We used the pathfinder tool and the background value to balance the works. We learnt the difference of serif and sans serif fonts and were required to use one of each in each block.

thirteenWaysOfLookingAtABlackbird

In the poem I couldn’t get this image out of my head. A bird landing back at home to its nest with mountains in the background. I also was thinking about the 3 people mentioned yet in my imagination I could only see them as pedestrians.

thirteenWayBlackbird

2020_nevada_blackbird

In this assignment we used our previous knowledge to make an illustration. We were assigned 15 box using only 13. The illustrations was to be made of only fonts and their respecting glyph. I made my entire piece from a period, I used different sizes and colors to create different textures.

In this project we created Euclid shapes using basic Illustrator tools. We learnt different ways to make a line, square and hexagon. These procedures will make it easier to create a mandala down the line.

03.R.1 Parallel Universes

02.F.2 Topo Transform Fabrication

Unfortunately I didn’t get to make my model. I cut the cardboard with the laser but before I get to make it, COVID-19 sent me home and I won’t be able to return to get my supplies.

02.A.3 Topo Transform Final

https://a360.co/2xhwKPX

This is my final iteration of my model, making it was quite easy after doing the bike seat. There were a few part that were difficult to reproduce such as the feet and face of this bear.

02.A.1 Topo Transform Concept

nevada

This was my model I drew, it took me only a few minutes to draw since I’ve done this before.

02.E.3 Personal Logo Etch

image0

This was my logo etched into a rubber pad allowing me to stamp my logo onto different material. I had to invert it and flip it so when stamp it shows my true logo. At first my logo was printing wrong so I had to fix the borders so I would print correctly.

02.E.2 Sculpt and Slice

2020_nevad_bearLayout1

2020_nevad_bearLayout1This was a new software for us, I think the only uses for it are to slice the way we did. Learning it wasn’t to hard but reusing that knowledge to print the model was a bit harder to recall.

02.E.1 Nine Square Grid

https://a360.co/35fMBLG

This helped me learn other tools such as micro bevels and creating different shapes within Fusion.

02.R.3 Hidden Geometry

  1. Hidden Geometry is a visual form within an artwork. Its an underlying shape that brings the work together by allowing you eyes to travel across the art.
  2. All of it is easy to understand
  3. None of it need clarification.
  4. Yes they are useful, the Vitruvian man is a good example of nature, design and history.

01.A.3 Final Logo

2020_nevada_logoFinalThis was my final design, it has the most resemblance to gestalt theories. I enjoy the minimalist design and the straight lines.

02.R.2 Linkedin Learning

https://a360.co/3bMaIE3

Making this was easier then I thought it would be. It was a good first project that introduced me to the tool and functions of Fusion 360.

02.R.1 Parallel Universes

  1. Understanding volume and how to use 3D space to create art.
  2. All of it is easy to understand
  3. None of it need clarification.
  4. Figure 5.19 by Lorenzo Ghiberti was very appealing.
  5. The readings explain the Cartesian coordinate system as the X,Y,Z planes shown in 3d. It’s easiest to understand from a mathematical example.
  6. The imagine in Figure 13.04 makes projection drawing the easiest to understand.

01.A.03 Personal Logo Sketch

2020_nevada_logoIterations2020_nevada_logoConcept
These were my sketches used to produce my final logo. I took the minimalist styles of my first 3 and used the same combination of my other 4 to come up with my final iteration.

01.A.02 Personal Logo Iterations

2020_nevada_logoIterations
This was a logo that inspired my final logo. It combines the M and the N into one, I didn’t like the balance and there were no gestalt elements so I made some changes.

01.A.1 Personal Logo

2020_nevada_logoConcept
In this project we sketched different logo for our own personal use, using our initials and fonts to grow and expand these concepts.

01.E.3 Point to Line

2020_nevada_pointToLine

In this exercise we got familiar with the pen tool and bezier curve. I used the pen tool to reproduce different lines and curves. Then I recreated the curve from the top-middle, with that new curve I reproduced the other effects accordingly.

01.E.2 GestaltPraxis

In this exercise we learned a few more tools in illustrator. We used more precise tools to duplicate and resizes circles. We learnt how to use the align tool and grid system to get more accurate placements.

01.E.1 Dynamic

In this post I learned how to reproduce simple rectangles and colors. We worked with a masterwork turning it into an abstract piece with less than 30 shapes.

01.R.3 GestaltTheory

  1. The primary point of this wiki was to show different ways to resemble shapes. It also shows important principles for grouping and perception
  2. Most parts of the reading were simple concepts but the most difficult part seems to be reproducing the concepts.
  3. Nothing from this reading should be clarified in class.
  4. The images in this reading are the most clarifying part, I couldn’t imagine different images being used.

01.R.2 Parallel Universes

  1. The primary points in Chapter 4 describe visual elements in 2 dimensions. Point, Line and Plane are different properties of an object in 2D.
  2. Is easy to understand how these properties take up space  and how to use them together to make shapes.
  3. There is nothing in this first chapter that is too difficult to understand. 2D shapes and imagery are very simple.
  4. Each concept if very simple yet can be integrated in interesting ways. Points of paint make up the very famous painting “A Sunday Afternoon”. Lines are necessary to 3D modeling and how each shape is calculated. Pablo Picasso used plane in very interesting ways to create works of art such as his famous guitar.

PSU Box: https://psu.box.com/s/02pabk00cioj2br6ooicfxs2c8b4ce53

  1. The primary part of this assignment was to increase our knowledge of cloud storage and storage management in general. We learned to keep 3 copies of work in different places. We also learn the importance to work on the computer and not on off the cloud.
  2. It’s easy to understand the importance of storage management and the practical means of storage.
  3. I understood the reading, it doesn’t need clarification.

Michael “Bear” Nevada

About me

This is about me, Michael Bear Nevada. I am an Army kid who’s lived all around America and has traveled around the world. This is my sophomore year at Penn State, and I plan on pursuing a path in new media. I enjoy working on creative projects, I like making new ideas and solving problems. I plan on a career making renderings for digital projects like TV shows, Movies or video games. In the 5 years after I graduate, I’d like to be working on making digital models, landscapes and characters. 10 years after that I’d like to be looking towards a leadership position, directing a creative team working on projects of the same content. My first two years of college are at PSU Abington, meaning my selection of classes is limited. Therefore, for my second two I plan on transferring to University Park allowing me to further my experience in the digital arts.
