Real Time Chat

During my real time chat with our english professor, we talked mostly about my academic goals, more specifically for that class. Going in, I wasn’t really expecting much, just to kind of see what she thinks I can improve on in the class. I told her that I tend to be a pretty indecisive writer and go back on what i’ve written and second guess certain things. She said that she didn’t really notice that in my writing which made me feel better about the issue. I usually turn in written assignments thinking I could have done better but not knowing what to fix, so this was a bit of a confidence boost for me.  We talked mostly about how I can improve on certain aspects of my writing, like going farther into an explanation for example.

In the past few weeks, my essay grades have increasingly gotten better, which is something i’m very proud of. I was never a great writer in high school, so this definitely made me feel better about my writing. I haven’t been to office hours with her before, but I have stayed after class a few times, mostly for help or clarification, but I can confidently say that it has been a huge help for me. It is so important to take advantage of a teacher’s available time to get help in the class or to get to know them. Having a good relationship with a professor will definitely be helpful for you in the long run. You know you’ll be able to ask them for help with stuff in or outside of the class and it will probably benefit you in the future. It’s also much easier to talk to someone you know well in general.  I can definitely see myself going to office hours in the future because it’s so worth it.

I want to pursue psychology in terms of a major and a career. I’m still not sure what I want to do exactly, but I’m very interested in the subject and want to learn more about the potential career paths I could take. I know a lot of writing goes into clinical psychology careers, so if I do end up perusing something in that field, this is where english 15 would be helpful in starting to figure out how I can start writing the best I can.

All in all, I think this meeting was very helpful and informational in terms of what I can do to improve and it was nice to connect with the professor one on one.
