This past TEDTalk assignment was a little bit difficult for me. It did not take me long to write my speech and, consequently, my slideshow was easy to make, as well. However, I soon came to realized that 4-5 minutes was not a long time for me to cover all the topics and details I wished to discuss. Even with the extra minute of a grace period, I found myself having to cut out a lot of what I had planned to present. As a result of this, it took me longer to record my presentation and I became quite nervous I was going to mess up. Somewhere I feel I could have significantly improved was the number of times I looked down at my notes. I don’t believe this happened because of a lack of memorization but rather an abundance of nerves, even though I wasn’t actually speaking in front of anyone at that point. Despite this, my group mates had several positive remarks on my TEDTalk. They believed that my presentation went quite well and assured me that I didn’t look down quite as much as I thought. They also shared that my slides were great and I had an appropriate and engaging tone. Overall, I think I did rather well on my TEDTalk presentation.
I am really looking forward to this next unit’s group project on public controversies and their histories. As someone who can be quite passionate about my views, I am personally a fan of knowing both sides of the argument and believe it is important to do so. My first idea is one that I am passionate about that is very relevant today and has been for many decades: planned parenthood. I have done a large amount of research on the topics of abortion and birth control in the past, but I believe with recent political events there is much more to learn. There is also a lot of history to this public controversy that would prove to be interesting in a documentary. My second idea, however, is one that I do not have a lot of knowledge about and feel I do not have adequate knowledge to help form my own opinion on: gun-control. I come from a very small town and have lots of friends and family who enjoy hunting, and I also have friends who have been significantly and personally impacted by mass-school shootings. With these relationships, I feel it is important to be informed on gun-control and feel that using this topic would be beneficial and interesting for my group’s public controversy project.

I was worried about the 4-5 minute time limit too but you included as much information as you could with the time we had! I like both of your ideas! Out of your ideas I think I would be more interested in exploring the planned parenthood controversy though!

I think your talk was great, the little time over the limit was well worth it. Both topics are ones I would be interested in exploring. I think planned parenthood would be extremely relevant since there have recent attacks against Roe v. Wade.
