After watching our class videos for this week and reading the comparison articles for the portfolio building platform options, I would like to use the Wix platform to develop my project. Although these resources showed that Weebly was fairly simple to use, I decided against it due to its restrictive nature that many users experienced. WordPress on the other hand is a complex platform that allows you to create virtually anything you want. This would have been a good option except for the fact that I know very very little on building websites and other things with technology. Wix seemed to fit my want for an easy platform while also being rather flexible with options.
My portfolio will be used as a sort of dating/friendship profile. I found that many of my projects and blogs reflected my personality over professional accomplishments or topics and so I wanted to use this assignment to pitch myself personality wise. My audience would be people of my own age which will likely be college students like me. Some of my tabs may include personal hobbies in which I would use my travel and movie passion blogs, “me, a feminist” which would talk a lot about my passion for equality and other feminist topics and utilize projects like my RCL documentary on planned parenthood (this would also allow me to display my hobby for editing) and my photo essay from my women’s studies class, and possibly a tab with basic facts about me and my life as a Penn State student. I also liked the use of a photo section used by one of the example students from our video and so I may also use something similar to that in order to display more aspects of my personality.
I love your idea for this! Honestly, I think it’s so cool. I love how you are going to be able to incorporate the work you have done in school since that is reflective of who you are. I can’t wait to see it!
Hi Maddie! I also decided to use Wix for similar reasons, so I understand where you are coming from. I like that you are planning to make the eportfolio more of a personal portfolio of interests and passions rather than simply academic works. I can’t wait to check it out!
I think you have a really interesting approach for this that can prove to be really interesting. It sounds like you have some really good directions for your included assignments and tabs. Excited to see it unfold!
