Welcome to Thailand

I feel like a very underrated vacation destination is Thailand. My cousin visited Thailand this past year and she said it was her favorite vacation. I was interested to do some research and learn more about what Thailand has to offer. I was not disappointed and found some really cool things you can do while in Thailand.

First up, visiting an elephant sanctuary. Who wouldn’t want to visit a place where you can interact with these gentle giants. I have done plenty of safaris where you observe from afar, but never anything with interaction. The most popular sanctuary is called Elephant Nature Park. Here, you can choose from a variety of different activities including feeding, hiking, or even bathing with the elephants. Established in 1990 in Chiang Mai, Elephant Nature Park is home to rescued and recovering elephants. Elephants who may have been forced to do entertainment performances or elephant riding services are rescued by the Elephant Nature Park. They have sixty kilometers of land for the elephants, and other rescued animals, to roam freely and interact with humans when they are comfortable. I feel like it would be an incredible experience to play with elephants who are taken care of and are happy in their environment.

Thailand is also known for the beautiful turquoise waters that surround it. The southwestern island of Phuket is about an hour plane flight from the city of Bangkok. They are known for incredible scenery and cheap prices. Spa treatments, boat tours, and food cuisine happen to be reasonably priced which also draws tourists in. The most visited beach, Nai Harn Beach, is home to white-sand beaches and crystal-clear water. It is the perfect environment to relax and enjoy the scenery and warmth. However, make sure to be aware of the monsoon season in Thailand. Although there has not been a major tsunami since 2004, they are still possible.

One last thing you could do in Thailand is to visit the Grand Palace in Bangkok. Established in 1782, this palace housed the royal family, government offices, and the infamous Temple of the Emerald Buddha. The architecture and colors used to construct this palace are truly magnificent. They are not like anything I have seen before in palaces. You are able to tour the inside of various buildings on the 218,000 square meter property. However, you must be properly dressed which includes no bare shoulders, covered legs, and no sandals. The sacred aspect of the palace must be respected by the workers and tourists. Overall, Thailand appears to be an amazing place to visit one day. I hope to experience the wonders it has to offer.

I love the way you present places you have no even been yourself. You give great information, and speak with such a reverence about them. I have always wanted to go to Thailand as well, because I feel as though the culture is so different then anything I have ever known. I hope we both get the chance to go there one day!
