Welcome to Amsterdam

For this blog, I will be talking about a wonderful trip to Amsterdam. Even though all travel to Europe is currently on halt, I would love to travel to the Netherlands in the near future. Similar to Venice, Amsterdam is renownedly known for its beautiful canals and houses. The history and cultural activities flourish throughout this city and there will always be something to do in this bustling city.

Right outside of Amsterdam lies a stunning field of tulips called Keukenhof. This park is a fifteen-kilometer long hiking trail along extravagant fields of tulip gardens and other varieties of flowers. Along with the gardens, there are also greenhouses, ponds, pavilions, and restaurants. The tulip gardens are the largest in the world with over seven million bulbs planted each year. Along with tulip gardens, there are other flowers there such as crocuses, daffodils, and hyacinths. Although they are only open for eight weeks a year, this garden is a breathtaking opportunity. Kids also have fun with many different playgrounds and activities placed throughout the park as well. This “world of colors” garden proves to be magnificent and a must-see destination in the Netherlands.

Located just outside the edge of Amsterdam is their largest park, Amsterdamse Bos. This park is filled with lush forests, meadows, and an abundance of well-marked trails for walkers and bicycles. Within the forest, there are small ice cream shops, botanical gardens, and outdoor theatres. With large lakes, canals, and swimming pools throughout the park, swimming and boating is a common activity. There are also zip-lining and climbing courses in the forests of the park as well. One unique attraction in Amsterdamse Bos happens to be a goat farm. Here, tourists are able to pet the goats and try various products such as goat cheese, milk, and ice cream. This park has so much to offer for an exciting day outdoors so close to the city of Amsterdam.

For history people, the Anne Frank House is an amazing attraction. In this museum, you are able to walk in the secret annex where Anne Frank and her family hid from the Nazis during World War II. Here she wrote her world-famous diary about her life in the annex and about the life of a young Jewish girl living during the Nazi regime. Tourists have the opportunity to walk throughout the actual annex seeing where her family lived and the exact set up of the entire place. There are also educational programs that teach the youth about the circumstances of the second world war and all about Anne Frank and her journey. All in all the historical, cultural, and natural attractions throughout Amsterdam draw in millions of tourists every year. The intricate set up of the entire city remains beautiful. I would love to travel here one day to experience all that Amsterdam has to offer.
