Project Abstract
Piezoelectric devices are able to convert kinetic energy, in the form of vibrations, into electrical energy. This technology is being considered for usage in smart highways for collecting the wasted kinetic energy from passing traffic. Reduction of wasted energy and utilizing reusable energy resources consequently reduces carbon emissions. Looking at the US-101 N in California, this paper considers the energy outputs based on traffic volumes and speeds collected for one day. As observed by the results, the output power decreases with a decrease in speed, and increases with an increase in traffic volume. This being considered, this technology would be better developed on high speed, high traffic areas and roads.
