Project Abstract

As drivers from across demographics may be temporarily blinded by LED headlights during nighttime driving, this study hopes to research possible solutions to increase the driver’s visibility during nighttime driving while passing opposing traffic. Electrochromic glass, also known as smart glass, has the potential to reactively reduce the impact of headlight glare on drivers by reducing the intensity of the light, therefore reducing disability glare and discomfort glare for drivers, in a timely and targeted manner that does not sacrifice driver visibility in other aspects. It is expected that this proposed solution can create safer driving conditions during nighttime driving.
