RCL Assignment 1: Decisions, decisions…

I’ll be the first to say it, writing can be a hard thing to do. It takes time and effort, plus some serious thought if you want it to sound any good. Unless, of course you really love what you write about. Since the title of this blog is “The Passion Blog”, I should be writing about something I am interested in. So, why not write about super heroes? You might be thinking “How is he gonna write a blog about super heroes? they are just made up characters”. That may be true, but comic book heroes have more depth than meets the eye. The hero of any age gives some insight to the reader of what ideas are important, what events are being talked about, and how people feel. They act as a fantastical way to tell people what is wrong or right with the world. Plus I love a good comic book, so that helps too. A second topic for my passion blog would be social media. I currently work for a company that helps start up companies manage and create their social media presence. I help these companies get posts online that sound good and get clicks. I think writing about my job would be fun (plus, this is directly related to my work, so you guys would kind of be test subjects).

Writing about something you care about can be fun. Writing about something that currently impacts the world will be fascinating. This this modern age, information moves faster than thought and reaches every corner of the Earth. Unfortunately, so much information exists and people have started to either tune out or only look at a single point of view. Both of these things are incredibly dangerous. Either way, people only get a little bit of information and do not question what they are hearing. So a possible question for my Civic issue would be: Has the information age caused more problems than it has helped? Another topic of interest would be college. Higher education in the states has become incredibly expensive. Today’s student debt makes up $1.2 trillion dollars of the $18 trillion US debt. In short, a lot of money. Considering how expensive school is in the states and how saturated the job market is today (since people are retiring later), college may be a dying institution. Or maybe it needs to be totally flipped on its head, so that schools are no longer businesses, rather places of learning.

Finally, the topics for the Super Team deliberation. On a related note to the idea of information, social activism has become a dwindling practice. In the past, the public was more involved with debate in regards to the status of the nation. It seems that today, the public has become more complacent with those in charge, and have stopped questioning authority. This needs to change, or the issues that people want solved will just stick around. This is basically the basis of what this project is anyway, so a discussion regarding the public in the political field is important. The second topic would be one rather close to my heart: rescue animals. I was once a volunteer for an organization that would go out, find strays and get them adopted. There are too many animals that have been abandoned, and we as humans have an obligation to take them i and give them safe places to live. So those are just a few of my ideas for all of my different blogs and the Super team. Please, if you have any ideas or questions, comment below. Any feedback is good feedback.
